Herbal Medicine

Sage Medicine has a fully stocked Chinese herbal dispensary as well as select, high-quality Western herbal medicines and nutritional supplements.

We specialize in creating custom herbal formulas for each patient, based on their individual constitution, using the diagnostic principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Our custom formulas are made from premium granule extracts in the form of a powder that the patient mixes with warm water, 2-3 times per day. Tablets and tinctures are available upon request.

We often recommend Western herbs in our practice. There are many times when it is appropriate to use Western herbs and supplements to target specific symptoms and patterns of imbalance.

Our Chinese herbs are GMP (Good Manufacturing Processes) certified and are routinely tested for contaminants and adulterants. They are tested by a third party to assure the accuracy of their ingredients, proven by a Certificate of Analysis (COA), which ensures they are safe for consumption.

At Sage Medicine, we only prescribe herbs and supplements from companies that pass rigorous quality control standards, including testing for heavy metals, pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, bacteria, molds and yeast. The manufacturers that we trust endure thorough testing to ensure the accuracy, potency, and safety of their ingredients.

Chinese Herbal Medicine is Unique

Chinese herbal medicine is unique, in that, there is not only one herb or one formula that is appropriate for treating each symptom. For example, a patient whose main complaint is insomnia might receive a completely different formula than someone else who also has insomnia. There are over 20 different formulas used to treat insomnia. The formula we prescribe for each patient depends completely on the individual’s diagnostic pattern. Once we narrow down which formula to use for each patient, we modify the formula and adjust the dosages to best suit the needs of the individual. In our pharmacy, we have over 150 single herbs to choose from when making a formula.

One advantage of Chinese herbal medicine is that we treat the whole person rather than isolated symptoms. We prescribe herbs to diagnose and treat the underlying imbalance that causes symptoms, rather than just treat the symptoms themselves.
